WHICH ARE THIS CAMPAIGN’S GOALS?
OVERALL GOALS
It’s twofold: on one hand, to increase the degree of personal privacy as well as the control over the information attributed to
them and on the other hand, to reduce the chances of causing or suffering cyberbullying in social networks. In short:
+ Privacy | y | + Control (on own digital identity) |
– Cyberbullying | y | – Conflicts on the Net |
This requires to affect the two elements involved:
- the companies responsible for online social networks, managing tagging permissions and privacy on their own systems
- the users of these social networks, to make them aware of the extent of the consequences that tags can cause, both to themselves and to others.
This is a work focused mainly on children and adolescent’s online protection, but as this issue is very common, it also involves all the people who use social networks with the ability to tag images. We can all be affected.
SPECIFIC GOALS
Provoke an internal reflection among citizens on the effects of tags on privacy and on its uses and possible implications for both involuntary actions as well as for intentional acts of harassment.
Bring together citizens’ demands channeling them to the companies responsible for the social networks so that they can change the way they treat and publish tags on photographs. This initiative puts special emphasis on child protection.
Increase knowledge on how tagging works and on the consequences of their misuse, with special emphasis on the population aged 11 to 15 years (compulsory secondary school).
To achieve all of them, in addition to the site www.ETIQUETASsinpermisoNO.com, an educational resource has been developed both for adults and for children, although especially aimed at teenagers, as it helps to understand the dynamics and challenges of tag use: www.etiquetassinproblemas.com
